Middle School Orchestra

  • The 7th grade orchestras, directed by Mrs. Spille, are designed for students with one year of experience in orchestra. Through exercises in the method book and engaging sheet music, students will expand on techniques and skills learned in 6th grade orchestra.

    The 7th grade orchestras will perform at the OSSAA district contest in March and at the Heartland Music Festival in late April.

  • The 8th grade orchestras, directed by Mrs. Wheaton, are designed for students with two years of experience in orchestra. Curriculum focuses on the development of instrument techniques such as shifting to higher positions and new bowing techniques, while continuing practice in different meters and key signatures, in preparation for high school orchestra.

    In addition to their regularly scheduled concerts, the 8th grade orchestras will perform at the JMS Veteran’s Day Assembly, at the OSSAA district contest in March, and at the Heartland Music Festival in late April.

  • For 7th and 8th Grade Orchestras, the required concert attire is formal “concert black”.

    Musicians may choose to wear a long-sleeved black shirt and long black pants, or may choose to wear a long black dress or black suit. Black socks and black shoes are required.

    Students who are not in uniform may be asked to leave the performance in order to prevent visual distraction.

  • 7th Grade Orchestras are directed by Mrs. Hyland Spille. She assists with the 8th grade orchestras.

    8th Grade Orchestras are directed by Mrs. Amanda Wheaton. She assists with the 7th grade orchestras.

    Mr. Neely assists with the first hour 7th Grade Orchestra class before traveling to direct the JEI and JWI orchestras.
